Poonch scribes to boycott govt functions | Allege misbehavior in DDB meet, Rajouri journos extend support | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Aug 2: Poonch media persons have decided boycott to cover all government functions in the area following alleged misbehavior with them in the District Development Board meeting held on Monday. The mediapersons also took to streets and held a protest demonstration demanding immediate removal of District Development Commissioner, Poonch, KR Khajuria and Superintendent of Police, Yougal Manhas. As per reports, media persons who were performing their duty at Dak Banglow Poonch to cover District Development Board meeting on Monday were reportedly misbehaved by some administrative and police officers, following which journalists associated with various media houses throng the streets and held protest demonstration. The media persons also held a meeting and decided to boycott all officials’ functions of the Poonch administration. “We were misbehaved none other than else but Deputy Commissioner Poonch KR Khajuria and Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas”, Darshan Bharti, a senior journalist and member of Journalist Association Poonch said, adding, that some journalists were even pushed out from the meeting hall which is clear breach of right to freedom of press. “Our colleagues were performing professional duty but were pushed outside by the officers”, Anubhav Mishri, a journalist said. Later, they shouted anti-administration and anti-police slogans in Poonch and said that government should learn these officers lesson who are becoming a hurdle in the smooth functioning of the affairs. “We demand immediate removal of DDC Poonch and SP Poonch”, Bharti added. Meanwhile, Rajouri journalists have also extended cooperation with their counterparts in Poonch. Expressing anguish over misbehavior, Rajouri Press Council (RPC) has condemned the incident and demanded immediate removal of those officers involved in pushing out scribes from the meeting and misbehaving them. In a press statement issued here, RPC President Tazeem Dar has expressed shock over the attitude of Poonch officers towards journalists. He said that he came to know about ban on media entrance into the District Development Board meeting. Demanding immediate action against the officers involved in restricting the journalists to perform professional duty, Dar said that the journalists were misbehaved by these officers and scribe fraternity will not tolerate this. “We demand immediate removal of those officer”, Dar said. Meanwhile, Rajouri Press Council hold emergency meeting at the Council Office Rajouri under the chairmanship of Avinash Jasyal, Vice President of RPC to condemn the misbehavior with the journalists. All the Executive Council members of RPC and Members of the Advisory Board of RPC viz Shahbaz Khan, Vinod Gupta and Gafoor Batt also condemned Poonch incident with the scribes. When contacted, District Development Commissioner Poonch KL Khajuria said that there was short of space inside the hall and was why they had permitted turn wise entry to the media persons. He said that no media person was abused or thrashed by any officer but were only requested to wait outside. “I have called meeting with journalists tomorrow and will apologies if they were hurt with our request”, he said.
