Batch of 1,503 yatris leave for Amarnath cave shrine

Jammu, Aug 2 : A fresh batch of 1,503 pilgrims this morning left the base station Yatri Bhawan here at Bhagwati Nagar for Shri Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas, an official spokesman here said.
The pilgrims, including 51 children and 230 sadhus, proceeded towards respective yatra base camps at Nunwan in Pahalgam, and Baltal in the Valley nearly six hours late at around 1045 hrs from its scheduled time under tight security cover in the wake of Kashmir situation, the spokesman said.
Escorted by a security vehicle, a convoy of 45 vehicles, including 27 State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses and 10 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), left the Yatri Bhawan here, he added.
The two-month-long Amarnath pilgrimage, which commenced on July 1, is going on smoothly, the sources said, adding that administration has made all arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of yatra.
As many as 50 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed to ensure security for yatris.
