Bridge on Poonch-Rawalkote road rebuilt | | | JAMMU: The bridge on Rangar nullah, which was Friday washed away from Indian side in flash floods, has been reconstructed for cross-LoC trade and bus service. It connects Chakan da Bagh cross-LoC point in Poonch with Rawalkote in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). "The bridge has been rebuilt at a height of a 50 ft from the nullah bed with the support of steel girders and pillars," official sources said. The Poonch deputy commissioner Kuldeep Khajuria said the bridge had been rebuilt on war-footing as it was the only road link between Poonch and Rawalkote in PoK. Any delay in this regard could have affected the cross-LoC trade and bus service, he added. He said due to the collapse of the bridge, daily movement of security forces in the region was also highly affected."The Poonch-Rawalkote road link between India and Pakistan is very important," Khajuria said and added, "The GREF understood its importance and completed its reconstruction on war-footing." The people of Fakir village, which is situated across the nullah, were also happy as the bridge connected them with rest of the state. "We are thankful to the administration for rebuilding the damaged bridge in less than two days," said Mohammad Fazal of Fakir. The men and machinery of GREF and BRO started the work on Saturday and completed it by Sunday, the sources added. Sources said the flash floods in the nullah had led to communication disruption on LoC as phone cables had also been washed away.
