New PYC chief's priority to build block, halqa units | I don't believe in factionalism, will try to curb it: Shoaib Lone | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 2: The newly nominated J&K Pradesh Youth Congress President Shoaib Lone today said that he would work towards curbing factionalism and dissensions within the organization and Youth Congress in particular. The young and dynamic leader from Kashmir, whose selection for the coveted post was approved by none other than Rahul Gandhi, also said that as a priority step of the new task he would make presidents at block, halqa and ward level across the state to strengthen the party at grass root level. " I don't believe in factionalism nor do I like to be categorized with lobbies…….I want to give clear message to rank and file in the Youth Congress that I believe only in Party and its strength for which I will work relentlessly", Shoaib said adding that he would dissuade and discourage such tactics, if found at any level. "I seek cooperation and coordination with parent body and its leadership……….I am here to cooperate with leadership at all levels ……….they should try to strengthen and nourish the youth body and we will reciprocate on similar lines….", Lone, former MLA from Sangrama said in an exclusive interview to ET ,adding that it is the collective effort and collective approach that will strengthen the party and organization at the state level. Shoaib Lone who is camping in Delhi after he was nominated as PYC chief said the biggest challenge he sees while taking over the new charge is to see how best he can deliver. " Whatever responsibility I have been entrusted by Rahul Ji, I should be able to come upto his expectations ………I will work with dedication and give my 100 percent", Shoaib said confidently, contending that he is well aware his name has been short listed for this post from amongst scores of other senior and deserving leaders. Shoaib Lone, who is the son of late GN Lone, a PDP leader and the then MOS who was killed by militants in the year 2005 became independent MLA the following year during bypolls from the Sangrama constituency. " My background or the fact that my father was with PDP or any other matter did not come at any round of selection during massive Talent Hunt programme…….It was me and purely me……my understanding of the things and approach as to how things need to be dealt for betterment of the organization etc that came up during the course of discussions……I am a straightforward and practical person and do not believe in hypothetical projections……. perhaps that thing clicked", Lone said while explaining what factor provided in edge in clinching this prestigious post. He said the episode of revelations in the state Assembly about corruption charges which led to the resignation of the then J&K PCC Chief Peerzada Mohammad Syed ( at present cabinet minister in the coalition government), did figure during the last round o interview, which he claimed lasted for nearly 40 minutes. Now, even as the turbulent situation in Kashmir Valley may not immediately allow him to start his work, Shoaib has already drawn up his priorities for the new assignment. " My first step would be build up units at grass root level….for this I will make presidents at block, halqa and even ward level across the state", he said adding that this is a daunting task but strengthening and consolidation needs to be done from the ground level. It may be mentioned that Shoaib Lone remained associate member of Congress for three years as he could not directly become the member of the Congress due to anti defection law in the state. Even as associate member, he worked for the party and played a positive role in support of Congress policy when Amarnath land row erupted in the state in 2008. He lost by a narrow margin in 2008 assembly elections against PDP's Basharat Bhukhari , again as an independent contestant.
