No let up in protests, 4 more die, govt buildings set ablaze | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 2: In the continuous spate of violence, defying curfew restrictions, five more protestors died during clashes with police in different parts of valley. On rampage spree, as the violent mobs resorted to stone pelting , targeting government buldings and public property, the security forces opened fire to disperse them which resulted in fresh casualties today. At some places the violent protestors also tried to loot and snatch weapons from the Police. Amidst mounting tension. despite curfew, hundreds of protestors took to streets at several places in south Kashmir. One protester was killed in police firing after agitators attacked a police post and attempted to set it afire in Kulgam district. In adjacent Sangam in Anantnag district, one person was killed when CRFP personnel retaliated to heavy stone throwing at their camp, police said, adding another person died in a stampede following the firing. At Kakpora, in Kashmir's Pulwama district, police opened fire on a group of stone-pelting protesters who were indulging in ransacking, killing one of them. One person was killed in Kralpora in north Kashmir's Kupwara district when police fired on a mob which looted arms from a police post. However, the protestors managed to flee with four rifles. "A health department building, horticulture office, tehsil office and railway station were set afire in central Kashmir's Budgam area," said the police spokesman. A police post was also burnt down. Hundreds of protesters raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans defied curfew in Budgam, 25 km away from Srinagar, and tried to march towards Chanapora as the Hurriyat call. Security forces fired in the air and lobbed tear-smoke shell to control the restive procession. Security forces resorted to firing at more than dozen places to keep protesters at bay including uptown Srinagar, Chief Minsiter Omar Abdullah's constituency Ganderbal, Baramulla, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Kupwara. "Security forces had to fire at several places in which four persons lost their lives, 67 persons, including nine civilians, 39 policeman and 28 CRPF jawan," said the spokesman. Unconfirmed reports, however, suggest five people were killed and dozens injured in security forces action on Monday. A boy, identified as Tariq Ahmad, who was injured on Saturday, breathed his last in the morning. The death toll of protesters killing has risen to 20 since Friday and to 37 since June 11, when the killing of a schoolboy lead to a string of protests.
