AJHLA concerned over continuous turmoil in Valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 3: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has expressed serious concern over continuous turmoil, unrest and spate of violence in Kashmir, which has adversely affected the tourism trade in Kashmir valley as well as in Jammu. A meeting of the hoteliers association held here today under the chairmanship of its President Inderjeet Khajuria observed that the occupancy in the hotels lodges in Jammu which has 75 to 80% in May-June, has come down to 20 to 25%, as a result of the present violent scenario in Kashmir valley. While the major loss to the hospitality industry in the state is being borne by the Kashmir valley, 20% of its impact has also fallen on Jammu hospitality sector. In Kashmir there was rush of tourists in May-June with the hospitality sector earning Rs 7 to 8 crores daily. The same has to come to grinding halt with tourism coming to moribund there. All the hotels lodges and houseboats are lying empty, with many other related trades and wage earners suffering heavy losses. Its impact is felt marginally on Jammu trade as well. Going by the heavy rush of Amarnath pilgrims at its start, it was expected that the figure of yatris undertaking yatra will cross 8 lakh. But the same has abruptly fallen, as a result of scare among the people over continuous violence in Kashmir valley. As a result of this hospitality sector in Jammu has also suffered a great loss. AJHLA while conveying sympathizes to the families of those killed in security forces action in Kashmir and also those got wounded, has however appealed to the civil society and enlightened public in the valley to muster courage to give hard no to daily shut down, strikes and violence let loose by some mischievous elements which is causing untold miseries to the common man. Inderjeet Khajuria observed that though political aspirations and interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir regions are divergent but the economic interests of both the religions are co related.
