JWA condemns Tral incident
8/3/2010 11:20:58 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 3:Joint Welfare Association (JWA) Ekta Vihar Jammu has condemned the sacrilegious act of cutting of the hair of a Sikh youth, in a Tral village by some anti-national and communal elements.
In a press statement issued here today president of the association Baldev Singh Wazir has lauded the courage displayed by Mithun Pal Singh who defied the dictate of anti- national and communal elements active in Valley.
Wazir said that providing protection to the minorities in any part of the country and the world is the responsibility of the majority community in a particular place.
He appreciated that Kashmiri Muslims by and large are secular and tolerant to the minorities. But there are few black sheep and mischievous elements who are hell bent upon disturbing the communal harmony by preaching hatred and targeting the minorities.
Wazir further said that the Sikh community has always upheld the tradition of secularism and religious tolerance by providing protection to the minorities where they are in majority.
He cited the example of Malerkotla in Punjab where there is a sizeable population of Muslims, who feel perfectly safe and protected, with full freedom to follow their religious practices.
Condemning the present turmoil in Kashmir where some innocents are being killed, becoming pawn at the hands of mischievous elements, Wazir said that human rights of the security forces personnel should also be honoured and protected.
He appealed to the Kashmiris at large to maintain Kashmiriyat which teaches tolerance and brotherhood and not fall pray to some vested interests.
