No uniformity in passenger-fare yet | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 3: Recent hike of 13 per cent in the passenger fare and freight carriages as announced by State Motor Vehicle has created lot of problems for the commuters as there is no strict pattern to follow the prescribed fares these days. There seems to be total chaos and confusion about actual fare and every now and then hot exchange of words are seen between conductors and passengers. Passengers also allege that the operators are charging exorbitantly which results into scuffle many a times. On the one hand, the increase in the passenger fare affecting the pockets of the people and on the other, no display of the fare lists are adding to the miseries of the poor people. Particularly the bus operators on different routes including Jammu-Kathua, Jammu-RS Pura, Jammu-Udhampur, and Jammu Pallanwala besides other routes are charging more exorbitant rates. Even after this decision, the uniformity has yet to be made as the prescribed fare has not been listed by the transporters which has made it difficult for the people to know the genuine fare for a particular area. Arti Choudhary, a college student, said that the tickets were not provided to them which helped the conductors to have the fare of their choice. The uniformity should be there and the fare list should be listed by the transporters so that the passengers are aware of the actual fare. When contacted for his comments, Minister for CAPD and Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon said that the department would ensure the proper display of fare lists in all the passenger vehicles. He said that the department would also ensure that the proper ticketing system be followed in the state.
