| Title holder Southern Sector reaches semis | | 19th Inter-Sector CRPT Hockey Tournament | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 3: Winning all their league ties, reigning champions, Southern Sector today qualified for the knock-out stages of semi-finals in the ongoing 19th Inter-Sector Hockey Tournament of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), organised by Group Centre Bantalab at KK Hakhu Stadium, here.
Earlier, in today’s both group-A matches, Southern Sector blanked the opponents to reach the knock-out stages in style. Making a poor beginning yesterday, after playing a goalless draw against Eastern Sector, Southern Sector registered impressive wins today.
In the first match, played in the morning session, Southern Sector defeated Tripura Sector by two goals to nil. Skipper, K Loken Singh scored both the goals netting in the 21st and 45th minute of the match. Later, in the afternoon session, Southern Sector trounced Srinagar Sector in a one sided contest 16-0.
Another contender for the knock-out stages from group-D, North Western Sector registered second consecutive win today beating fighting Special Sector by two goals one. Prasad Bhengra (18th) and Daljit Singh (22nd pc) scored for winners.
Placed in group-B, last year’s bronze medalist, Bihar Sector beat Central Sector 3-2. Roshnar Beek (10th and 23rd pc) and Santosh Topps (32nd) were the scorers from Bihar Sector while Sudhir Xaxa (35th) and Michle Tete (46th) scored from losers, Central Sector.
In a group-C tie, fourth position holders, Western Sector trounced Northern Eastern Sector 9-0. Inderjeet Singh (2nd, 34th, 41st, 48th) scored four goals, followed by Toshil Ekka, who sounded the board twice in 6th and 13th minute of the match. Anand Hora (12th), KS Ba (22nd) and Rajesh Kindo (32nd) were other scorers from winners.
