1 killed, 2 hurt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA: A Wagon R met with an accident on the national highway near Birwan bridge in Udhampur in the wee hours of today, resulting in the instant death of its operator and injuries to other occupants. Police sources said the ill-fated car (JK01N/3189), which was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu, skidded off the road near Birwan bridge and fell into a gorge at about 5 am. DSP traffic, AQ Runyal was among those who reached the spot soon after the mishap. They removed the three injured persons from the vehicle and immediately shifted them to Udhampur district hospital where one of them was declared brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Ali Mohammad Wani (41), son of Mohammad Wani, of Plar, Budgam, and the injured as Mohammad Shahid (44), son of Shahid Hussain, and Zahid Hussain, son of Mohammad Hussain, both residents of Srinagar. Following deterioration in their condition, the injured were later referred to the GMC Hospital, Jammu, where their condition was stated to be critical. The body of Wani was kept in the mortuary of Udhampur district hospital. Sources said his family had been informed of his death. The body would be handed over to them after post-mortem when they reached here tomorrow, the sources added. Police had registered a case in this connection. Meanwhile, motorcyclist Balbir Singh, son of Sandool Singh, and his pillion rider Balbir Singh, son of Shabeel singh, both residents of Panasa, Reasi, were injured critically when their two-wheeler (JK02G/4398) was hit by a sumo (JK14A/8486) at Zero Morh, Reasi, at about 5 pm. Both of them were admitted to the district hospital, Reasi. They were later referred to the GMC Hospital, Jammu, after their condition did not show any sign of improvement. Police had arrested sumo driver Kuldip Singh, son of Kapur Singh, of Thanpal, Reasi, and seized the sumo. |
