EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Aug 4:
Following struggle of last many decades, Pahari culture has been recognized by the Government of India and a Pahari Cultural Centre is likely to come up in the state for which New Delhi has agreed to grant Rs 10 Crore.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is also likely o announce Rs 40 crore package for the Pahari community of the state.
Highly placed sources told Early Times that Government of India had recognized Pahari culture which was long pending demand of the Pahari community. Sources said that Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh has also agreed to grant Rs 10 crore for opening a Pahari Cultural Centre in Jammu & Kashmir- the same was reportedly proposed by Jammu & Kashmir State Board for Pahari Speaking People headed by its Vice Chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pahari community was striving hard to get recognition at New Delhi for the last many decades. However, due to some bottlenecks, they were not getting any response from the capital of the country. The community is also striving hard for scheduled tribe status since 1991 when the same was granted to Gujjar and Bakerwals of the state.
During his tour to Darhal Rajouri, Early Times talked to Vice Chairman of J&K State Board for Pahari Speaking People, Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari regarding the matter who admitted that Government of India has recognized Pahari Culture and this is big achievement of the community. “Prime Minister has also agreed to provide Rs 10 crore for opening of Pahari Cultural Centre in the state and a communication in this regard has been received by us”, Bukhari said thanking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his help to the community.
Following response of government of India to this community, Pahari people are hoping good in future and they are also expecting that GoI will say OK to their most important demand of granting ST status to them. “If there is some response from government, we expect that we will also be given ST status in future and all this development becomes possible only after Mushtaq Bukhari took over as Chairman of J&K Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum”, Shahbaz Khan, Chief Executive of Pahari Peoples Movement told Early Times. He added that the community will surely get its justice under the patronage of their leader Mushtaq Bukhari.
Sources further said that New Delhi is also likely to announce Rs 40 crore package for the development of Pahari community. Sources said that a proposal in this regard has already been submitted by Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari to Prime of India.
“Yes we had mooted a proposal to Prime Minister of India for granting Rs 40 crore for the development of the community and Prime Minister is likely to announce some package for us”, Mushtaq Bukhari said adding that PM has already agreed for Pahari Cultural Centre which was also a demand in the proposal mooted by them. “We had proposed Rs 10 crore for scholarships, Rs 5 Crore for the Pahari youth development, Rs 10 Crore for Pahari Cultural Centre and Rs 10 Crore for renovation of existing Pahari hostels”, Bukhari said adding that they are expected to get all the things cleared from Centre.
On ST status, Bukhari said when government has showed sincerity in the development of Pahari community, ST status is also not a big issue with New Delhi. “We expect that GoI will consider our demand in near future and we are striving hard to get this status”, he said.
