| District Hospital Doda short of essential facilities | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug.4: When there is dire need of improved modernized medical facilities besides opening up of the new hospitals in the state, people of hilly district Doda decry lack of necessary medical facilities in District Hospital Doda?
District Hospital Doda with the capacity of 100 beds and catering to medical needs of almost 90 thousand people of the area fails to fulfill the aspirations of people. Lack of necessary facilities in the hospital is causing harassment to the patients...
This hilly district with maximum population living in rural and hilly area is deficient of adequate number of hospitals, dispensaries and other infrastructural facilities.
Talking to TNI, patients said that Pathology wing of the hospital is in a hopeless condition owing to lack of infrastructure and adequate trained staff. People have to wait long hours sometimes for many days to get the reports of tests.
Patients alleged that for ultrasound tests, ECG, X-Rays, and other tests, they have to wait for many days as machines are old, and many times the result is inaccurate. Sometimes more than one patient occupies a bed owing to deficiency of beds in the hospital. Out of 20 sanctioned posts of Assistants Surgeons, only 9 surgeons are available for regular service.
In Gynecology department the essential facility of an incubator is not available.
Locals also said that entire area is hilly and accident prone. As such Casualty and Emergency facilities in the hospital should be available in full and round the clock so that in emergency situations precious lives can be saved.
While refuting the allegations, Chief Medical Office (CMO) Doda Dr Bashir Ahmed said that though there are some deficiencies in the infrastructure of the district hospital but we have sent proposals to the higher authorities from time to time how these can be removed.
He also said that new building for District Hospital is under construction. Once its construction is completed, problem of space shortage would get solved.
