Joint Forum KP Organizations decries Farooq’s autonomy demand | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 4: The Joint Forum of frontal Kashmiri Pandit organizations held a meeting today to discuss the statements issued by the President of the National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah in connection with the present strife in the valley of Kashmir. The meeting was among others attended by A.N. Vaishnavi, President-ASKPC, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, H.L. Chatta, General Secretary-ASKPC, Virender Raina, National Spokesperson and D.N. Kissu, President, ANMCC. Members expressed surprise and dismay at the statements of Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the President of the National conference that the Centre should hold talks for grant of autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir in view of the current strife in the valley. It is highly surprising at a time when the government is trying to control the situation in Kashmir Dr. Abdullah has chosen the occasion to open a new front. He has done so when he is holding a responsible position in the Central Cabinet. His statement has potential to ignite the inferno further in the trouble-torn valley of Kashmir and make things go out of control for the government of India. Members were unanimous that any arrangement taking away Kashmir from the constitutional frame of India is fraught with dangerous consequences. Majority of the people in the State desire complete integration of the state with the Union of India and to talk of Autonomy at this stage is only an exercise of political gimmick and blackmail. The demand of autonomy is unacceptable to the people of Jammu, Ladakh and the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community who have always been the victims of discrimination, neglect and apathy due to policies centric to Kashmir based elite political class. National Conference, it seems, is trying to make political capital out of the present strife in the valley. The issues pertaining to the unity and integrity of the nation cannot be put to discussion tables for solutions time and again. The Accords of 1947, 1953, 1975 and 1987 were discussed and settled with the participation of National Conference and there is no room left for raking up the subject of autonomy once again. Moreover, this demand of autonomy creates a situation of perpetual discontentment in a certain section of people. The time has come for taking steps to reject all measures aimed at diluting the sovereignty of India in Jammu and Kashmir. The Joint Front appeals to the nationalistic forces to resist with all might the campaign to destabilize the unity and integrity of India in Jammu and Kashmir State.
