Education sector in shambles | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 4: Much hyped efforts of the state education department are proving futile as there is virtually no change in the education sector in far flung areas of the state. Students in hilly and far-flung areas of the state are still forced in study in the government schools sans basic facilities and requisite staff. One such example is of the primary school in Nagara village of Sunderbani block of district Rajouri where no facilities have been provided by the school education department. This school serves hundreds of peoples of four nearby villages namely Tala, Chard, Tenda, and Nagara. This school is in worst condition as the whole school is made to depend upon 3 rooms including the staff room and Headmaster office. Interestingly Headmaster’s post is lying vacant since many years and 3 teachers are there for 8 students. Poor people of the area are forced to send their children to private schools mainly because of dilapidated condition of the government school. Sachin Sharma, a resident of the area said that due to the careless and lackadaisical attitude of the teachers, the future of the students was insecure and no one is made accountable for this. State president, Progressive Students Association and Jammu University scholar Rahul while reacting on the education scenario of the state said that the government authorities are facilitating the deterioration of infrastructure of the government schools, so that space is provided to the private players to play their game and earn huge profits. He further said that the state government has totally failed to improve the education system in nook and corner of the state as in many examples prove this on grounds.
