Floods leave 24 families’ shelter less in Mandi

RAJOURI, Aug 4:

At least 24 houses have been washed away in the flash floods in recent past heavy rainfall in Mandi area of district Rajouri while the administration and local Member Legislative Assembly have constituted a dozen teams of officials to hold intensive survey of the loss of property and cattle during the floods so that the affected people may be provided proper relief.
Giving details to Early Times, MLA Mandi Ajaz Jan said that though they had preliminary investigated the loss, they found that 24 houses have been washed away in the flood. He however said that there is more loss in the area and he along with Deputy Commissioner Poonch KR Khajuria had constituted a dozen teams to access the situation in the area. “We have deputed teams to various areas like Kenu, Khullani , Sathra Seikhloo, Saloonia Tash Pathana, Loran, Plaera and Sawjian Gagrian areas to know the actual loss of property during recent rainfall”, he said adding that the affected people will be given the relief accordingly.
He further said that in case of remote areas a senior headmaster of the middle/high school will personally monitor the entire assessment exercise. The worst effected areas of Kenu Khullani were inspected and preventive measures were taken to avoid any eventuality due to floods, BDO Mandi Aijaz Qaiser was directed to raise crate work under BRGF and in convergence with NREGA within a short span to avoid further losses.
MLA said that the road connectivity to Loran gets disrupted because of frequent land sliding and directions were issued to keep arrangements for road clearance readily available on priority. He said that Power Development Department was also directed to ensure restoration of power supply to these areas in wake of upcoming holy month of Ramadhan.
Jan also directed the Executive Engineer PWD to conduct an extensive repair of Mandi Poonch road in a week’s time to avoid any discomfort to the Budha Amarnath Yatries. He lauded the role of officers posted at Mandi for their untiring efforts during floods and in conduct of yatra. He also congratulated DDC for his efforts in damage control exercise.
