If agencies sponsor protests, why seek a political package? | Identify the mischief mongers | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 4: The on-going protests have been giving sleepless nights to the government. But instead of taking tangible measures to restore order in the troubled valley, the politicians have been accusing unidentified `agencies' for creating trouble. Yesterday, the Congress chairperson, Sonia Gandhi also accused some elements for the mess Kashmir finds itself in. However, the Chief Minister contradicted all including his previous statement by saying `Kashmir was a political problem' at New Delhi last week. The law minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar even went to the extent of saying that the `elements' behind the trouble had been identified. Sagar was referring to the stone pelters, who, according to him, were sponsored, funded and patronized by some agencies. The Chief Minister issued a statement on the floor of the house during the budget session. He said the stone pelters and their `masters' had been identified. He even promised strict action against them. At one point of time, the Law Minister named the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for funding the `trouble makers'. This was followed by a statement of the DGP. He said the stone pelters were funded by unscrupulous elements, mostly kerosene dealers, who made a fortune by creating trouble in the city and towns. Action was taken but not against the persons who `patronize' the protests. Hundreds of youth in the age group of 16-30 were picked up from various places. Some were detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) as well. But strangely enough, the arrestees did not include any member of the PDP, who according to the Law Minister patronize the stone pelters. Similarly no kerosene dealer was held for his role in stone pelting. After three months the blame has shifted. The Law Minister now believes that some agencies were sponsoring stone pelting. For a commoner `agency' means an intelligence organization like the CID, IB, RAW and the list is endless. The people want to know which particular agency has been indicted by the persons who run the troubled state. Surprisingly the Chief Minister during his visit to New Delhi last week sought a political package for the state. "Jammu Kashmir is a political issue and must be perceived and addressed in that context", he told media persons after meeting the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. By demanding a political package, Chief Minister added a much wider dimension to the on-going protests. If the protests are instigated, sponsored and patronized by the `agencies' or the unscrupulous elements, how did Omar Abdullah seek a political solution to the problem?
