MIER Advance Learners Workshop concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , Aug 5: A lively, creative and participative five-day workshop on ‘Developing Creative Lesson Plans for Advanced Learners’ at Secondary School Level’ for teacher educators concluded at MIER College of Education. The workshop was conducted from July 27 to 31 to initiate creative teaching by making the teacher educators aware about various creative models of teaching like the Concept Attainment Model, Inquiry Training Model, Role Playing Model and concept of Creative story development. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER Group of Institutions gave a brief introduction to the workshop and highlighted its objectives in the inaugural session. She said that through this workshop the faculty will plan creative lessons to be delivered by some advanced learners. Since the same lesson format is provided for all the students, it can sometimes become boring and non-challenging for some brilliant students who can otherwise become creative teachers if exposed to some new models of teaching. She further asserted the need to have a re-look at the teaching practice component, the lesson plans, and their delivery in the class, their outcome and their impact on the students’ learning. Any lesson which is different and interesting, appeals to the senses of the students and their concept formation and adds to their learning in the most effective lesson. She added that there have been numerous models of teaching propounded by educationists but it is not possible to take up all of these. Therefore, the college had selected a few in the first phase. Congratulating the Principal and the staff of both B. Ed and M. Ed departments on taking the initiative to introduce this innovative practice in the teaching practice component both at the B. Ed and M. Ed levels, Dr. Arun Gupta, Chairperson MIER Group of Institutes who was the chief guest at the valedictory session of the workshop said that being a pioneer institution in the state , the MIER College of Education has taken the lead in creating the need and awareness about creative teaching among the teacher educators, who in turn, will plan a workshop for the teacher trainees in the new academic session so that these methods of teaching permeate in the teaching practice for the school students. He felt that there was need for networking with the Regional Colleges of Education in the country on this important issue and also conduct a seminar on ‘Models of Teaching’. In this way we can arrive at more out of box strategies for Creative Teaching and learning for dissemination to the teacher trainees. The Chief resource person for the workshop was Mrs. Annie Kaul, Sr. Lecturer MIER College of Education. She explained the theoretical concept of the models and then gave model presentations of the lessons. This was followed by formulation of lessons and presentation by the participants in their respective teaching subjects. It was highly successful workshop as it involved the active participation of all the faculty members.
