TAD yet to disburse scholarships | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 5: The Tribal Affairs Department (TAD) of the state government meant to serve the poor and downtrodden students has failed to achieve the purpose. Thousands of the students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe communities of the state are eagerly waiting for the scholarship as the admission season has completed in different degree and professional colleges and universities of the state. This is the time when the scholarship is needed most, as most of the ST students belong to economically poor sections of the society. President All J&K SC/ST Students Federation Haq Nawaz Choudhary said according to norms, the scholarship should be disbursed in the month of February-March but like last year, thedepartment is also delaying this year too due to which students are suffering a lot as admissions in universities are going on and students are in great need of scholarship . Majority of the ST students depend on scholarships for admissions. The Tribal Affairs Department and particularly the state government are not serious and always negating the Gujjar-Bakerwal community, who are facing a lot of problems, said one of the ST student. Federation also alleged that there was no dearth of funds in the department as informed by the officials of the department to the delegation. Vice Chairman, Tribal Affair Department Bashir Ahmed Naz said that presently the department was facing financial crunch as Union Government has not provided sufficient funds and the scholarship would be disbursed as soon as suitable funds are made available. He also said that the department was planning to disburse the scholarship in two installments instead of one this year to benefit the students. They also urged the authorities to disburse scholarship to the students as soon as possible.
