Kashmir Crisis: Mirwaiz, Mattoo, Dulat on the same page

RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 5: What, however, very significant was the manner in which Congress national spokesperson Munish Tiwari and General GD Bakshi rebuffed Amitabh Mattoo. Munish Tiwari virtually taunted, exposed and even roundly criticized Mattoo for his perverted and motivated views by putting very serious questions to him regarding the exact causes leading to the current turmoil in Kashmir, as also regarding the Pakistani role. Tiwari also asked Mattoo if the unemployment problem had also something to do with the current situation in Kashmir. Mattoo, instead of answering the questions, fumbled and shamelessly tried to defend his views.
Munish Tiwari asked Mattoo: What political solution? Matto answered: "Talk to everyone in Kashmir." Munish also took on Mattoo by saying that the "government should talk to whom"; that "there are elements who want to destabilize the state government"; that "it's a chicken and egg situation"; that "CRPF and Rapid Action Force are needed. Omar Abdullah is Chief Minister. He is a man on the spot. He should be supported by all mainstream." Munish Tiwari didn't endorse even a signal Mattoo's formulation. On the contrary, he questioned each and every formulation of Mattoo and practically told him that he was living in a fool's paradise. What Munish Tiwari said was, in fact, a scathing attack on Mattoo and his perverted formulations.
However, it was General Bakshi who showed Mattoo his rightful place or dismissed with contempt all of his formulations, which were consistent with what the Mirwaiz and other Kashmiri separatists and communalists stand for. General Bakshi countered very convincingly all of the Mattoo's arguments as well as the Mirwaiz's arguments saying the Umar "wants talks with Pakistan" and that "he wants India to give up Kashmir."
General Bakshi also took to task those instigating people to take law into their own hands and pelt stones on the security forces and said: "Pakistan is responsible. Pakistan changed its strategy to bleed India and annex Jammu and Kashmir in 2007, when the Pakistani-sponsored terrorists and saboteurs and Pakistani agents failed to achieve their objective through the strategy they had evolved and employed. The new strategy was evolved in order to discredit our democratic system. ISI is involved. What do you mean by Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu is peaceful. Ladakh is peaceful. Kargil is peaceful. No one in Jammu, Kargil and Leh is pelting stones." The cornered Mattoo try to counter General Bakshi by making a provocative and ridiculous remark, but failed. "Mattoo tried to intervene while General Bakshi was speaking. Mattoo said: "Were we sleeping when the ISI operatives fomented trouble in Kashmir." The comment is self-explanatory.
Thus, both Munish Tiwari and General Bakshi put things in perspective by exposing the Mirwaiz and his cohorts, including Mattoo, and presented before the nation a true picture of facts. The only difference between the two was that while Munish Tiwari did not dismiss the current turmoil in Kashmir as a manifestation of worst form of communalism (and what could understand his limitations), General Bakshi left none in any doubt that what had been happening in Kashmir was the immediate outcome of the machinations employed by those who want separation from India on religious ground. Significantly, Sanjay Ahirwal of the NDTV had also said that "there is a communal elements in what has been happening in Kashmir" and that "this needs to be taken note of."
The moral of the story is that the Pakistani agent Mirwaiz, the so-called expert in foreign relations and conflict-manager Amitabh Mattoo and former Raw chief A S Dulat, who is too well-known for his perverted views on Jammu and Kashmir, are on the same page. A S Dulat has, it needs to be underlined, on several occasions suggested greater autonomy/self rule as a solution to the Kashmir problem. Our problem is neither Pakistan nor the likes of the Mirwaiz. Our problems is the likes of Mattos and Dulats. The sooner they are reined in the better. (Concluded)
