Student among 12 killed, 30 hurt in road mishaps

JAMMU, Aug 5: Twelve persons, including an 11th class student, were killed and at least 30 others wounded, some of them critically, in three road accidents here today.
A speeding minibus (JK06/801), which was on its way from Bhalla to Bhaderwah, skidded off the road and plunged into Neeru nullah at Sania Attasa Bhalla near Bhaderwah at about 10.45 am, resulting in
the death of nine persons, including a man and his son, and injuries to eight others.
The dead were identified as Abdul Ghani (52), son of Dina Lone of Drafra Duggli, his son Liyaqat Ali (25), Suresh Kumar (50), son of Dhani Raj of Jogta, driver Firdous Ahmed (28), son of Arshad Ahmed
of Malsoo, Bhaderwah, Murtaza Ali (45), son of Ghulam Ali of Neil, Bhanihal, Sunaina Devi (50), wife of Amar Nath of Bara Khaleni, Mudassar Ahmed (28), son of Tariq Ahmed of Pranoo, Janta Devi (45),
wife of Rajinder Kumar of Janana Dardu and Kajal, daughter of Rajinder Singh of Janana Dradu.
Their bodies were handed over to their family members for last rites after post-mortem at the Doda district hospital. The body of Kajal was, however, yet to be recovered, police sources said.
The injured, admitted to the Doda district hospital, were identified as Ghulam Rasool, son of Ahmed Mir of Bhalla, Nawaz Ahmed, son of Shamas Din of Pogal, Ramban, Rajinder Singh, son of Kashmir Singh of
Janana Dardu, Danesh Ahyat, son of Abdul Rashid Bali of Pogal, Ramban, Jaswant Kumar, son of Shankar Lal of Chakka, Bhaderwah, Hassan Din, son of Ghulam Mohammad of Seri, Bhaderwah, and Prithiv
Raj, son of Churu Ram of Pantkoo Bhallara. Their condition was stated to be out of danger.
In another incident, two persons, including an 11th class student, were killed and at least 21 others injured when the bus (JK02D/0827) in which they were travelling was hit by another bus from behind at
Thikrian in R S Pura early in the morning.
The dead were identified as 11th class student Akhil Choudhary (19) and Gian Chand (50), both residents of Sai Khurd, R S Pura.The injured were admitted to the R S Pura hospital from where
Asha Rani (37), wife of Ajay Kumar of Dablehar was referred to the GMC Hospital here following deterioration in her condition.
Meanwhile, a Maruti Alto car hit a bridge parapet near Kathua late last night, resulting in serious injuries to driver Ravinder Singh (25), son of Kaku Ram, and his mother Shakuntla (60).
They were referred from the Kathua district hospital to GMC Hospital where Shakuntla died early in the morning.
