Core group reviews security situation on I-Day eve | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 5: In view of the impending Independence Day celebrations and the intensified infiltration attempts from across the borders, a core group meeting was Wednesday held at the Nagrota headquarters of White Knight Corps. The meeting was chaired by 16 corps GOC and security advisor Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, and attended by divisional commissioner Pawan Kotwal, SB commissioner, IB joint director,IGP Ashok Gupta, IG CRPF, IG BSF and other senior civil, army and police officers. A defence spokesman said the meeting reviewed the security situation in Jammu region in view of the forthcoming Independence day celebrations and intensified infiltration attempts from across the borders. Lt Gen Roy complimented the forces, intelligence agencies and civil administration for achieving highest degree of synergy and coordination and efficiently handling the internal security situation in Jammu region. He, however, said there was a need to be more vigilant in view of the possibility of terrorists attempting to disrupt the existing peace in the region, especially on the eve of Independence day. He reiterated that the downward slide in terrorism was attributed to the high degree of dedication and cohesiveness amongst all the security agencies in the state. The Lt Gen said zero tolerance for human rights Violations by security forces must continue to be ensured at all costs with emphasis on the conduct of joint operations.All areas must be appropriately sanitised in view of the ensuing Amarnath yatra, he added.The spokesman said the meeting ended with a firm resolve of all to ensure that continuous pressure on the terrorists would be maintained at all times to come in the region. |
