Pahari organisation has welcomed decision of Government of India for recognising Pahari culture by granting Rs 10 crore for establishment of Pahari Cultural Centre in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, Provincial General Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum and renowned trade unionist Vijay Kochhar has welcomed New Delhi’s decision of recognizing Pahari culture. Kochhar said that the Pahari community had thousands of years old culture but the same was still not recognized at national level.
“We thanks Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for recognizing Pahari culture”, he said adding that Vice Chairman Jammu & Kashmir State Board for Pahari speaking people Mushtaq Bukhari has strived hard to get the culture recognized at New Delhi and he has succeeded in his mission. “I congratulate Bukhari for his first round success in getting the culture recognized and hope that the community will get justice in near future by conferring of Scheduled Tribe Status to them”, he added.
Expressing satisfaction over the functioning of the Pahari Forum, Kochhar said the forum has intensified its struggle at state and national level and all Pahari leaders are doing commendable job in popularizing the cause of the community. “We have targeted a single mission of getting scheduled tribe status from Centre and the response being given in the shape of Pahari Cultural Centre is welcome step towards achieving our goal”, Kochhar said.
Meanwhile, Pahari leader also demanded the Centre to give final nod to Rs 40 crore packages for the welfare of Pahari community which has been proposed in recent past.
