NWS again becomes champion on Jammu turf
19th Inter-sector CRPF Hockey Tourney concludes

JAMMU, August 6: Astroturf at KK Hakhu Stadium of Jammu proved to be lucky field for North Western Sector (NWS), who lifted the championship trophy for the second time beating the defending champion, Southern Sector 6-1 in the final of 19th Inter-Sector Hockey Tournament of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) played here today.
In the same event held two years ago in 2008 at Hakhu Stadium was won by North Western Sector. However, in the previous edition of the game, held at Ajmer in Rajasthan, Southern Sector trounced NWS in the final.
Earlier, NWS, who had practiced at an astroturf in Jallandhar before the competition, made better coordinated efforts in first half of the match to take an unbeatable 5-1 lead. But, they were stopped from further improving their score by Southern Sector in the second half which witnessed only one goal as compare to six in before the drinks break.
Earlier, finding the reigning champions not to give up, especially after the equalizer that came in the 17th minute, NWS turned offensive and hit power-packed shots right on the goal post which helped them add four more goals in a gap of just 15 minutes. It resulted into Southern Sector turned defensive and could not play their natural game.
From winners NSW, Anil Birk made hat trick striking in 7th , 22nd and 27th minute while Balkar Singh (30th pc), Manjinder Singh (35th pc) and Silon Bara (37th) were other scorers. Amit Bangra reduced the margin from Southern Sector converting a penalty corner in the 17th minute.
The final was officiated by PP Singh, Dalbir Mehta (centre), K Bansanta and A Khlakho.
In the hard-liner, played this morning, Western Sector trounced Bihar Sector by two goals to one to finish third. Tosil Ekka and Anand Hora scored for the winners in 27th and 34th minutes of the match while, Jerka Oraon scored the only goal from Bihar Sector.
For their distinguished play, Satish Ekka of Special Sector was declared best goal-keeper, while Balkar Singh of the winners NWS was adjudged best player. Sudhir Bara of NWS got best half back trophy and the best stricker title went to K Loken Singh of Southern Sector, who scored highest nine goal.
Rajesh Kindo of third position holders, Western Sector was declared all round best of the tournament by the penal of experts.
In the final and valedictory function, Inspector General of CRPF Jammu Sector, A S Sidhu was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. He encouraged the losers, Southern Sector for emphasized for hard work next time and appreciated the performance of winners, NWS.
Later, Deputy Inspector General of CRPF, Group Centre Bantalab, Sant Ram Panthi presented vote of thanks.
