Soz seeks visit of RS delegation to Kashmir | ‘Kashmir needs compassion, not economic package’ | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 6: Prof Saifuddin Soz, MP ( former union Minister) and President, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh congress Committee has sought a team of Parliamentarians from all parties visit Kashmir , see the bereaved families and talk to a cross section of society to understand their grief and grievances.
Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha today while expressing serious concern over situation in Kashmir Soz has appealed to the Upper House in Parliament to respond to the miseries being faced by the people as also to the state of mind of the young generation who have seen violence continuously all these years. Prof Soz said the disturbing situation has paralyzed normal life and brought to complete halt in the education system trade activity which he said has resulted in hardships and sufferings of common masses.
“ I rise to express my deepest anguish on what has been happening in Kashmir……. it makes me deeply sad that many persons including women and young children were killed in recent days. I lament in fact that the people of Kashmir have suffered great hardships during the spells of curfew and strikes and their lives have become distraught”, the senior Congress leader from Kashmir stated in his statement . The entire system of education there is in a shambles and loss to trade, commerce and the properties is colossal, he said asserting that there has to be response from the democratic polity of India to the current scenario of a situation of hopelessness of a people who have most visibly lost faith in almost all the instruments that constitute a democratic system.
“Will it be too much to expect that this house responds to the miserable situation that prevails not no the ground in physical terms only, but more dangerously in the realm of mind of the young generation who have seen nothing but violence all these year? If this August House cares for my appeal, then it could support my suggestion that a group of Parliamentarians from all parties may visit Kashmir soon and talk to a cross section of society, besides visiting the bereaved families”, Prof Soz said. Making his point, Prof Soz said it is the possible to understand better, the perception of the Executive and that of difficult segments of civil society. The people of Kashmir deserve a message of compassion more than any package for economic well-being. “Around this time, we should all be feeling to send a powerful message of inclusiveness and togetherness, cutting across party lines”, he observed.
Many members in the House including the CPM and CPI members supported Prof Soz’s demand for an All Party delegation’s visit to Kashmir early to asses the situation on spot.
