State to miss swimming events this year | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 7: THIS year, the state will have to miss the State level and National level swimming events. Reason: the only Swimming Pool in the M A Stadium is being closed and is under construction. This surely is bad news for swimmers of the winter capital who have to wait for another year for their day to day practices. As per sources, the construction work of the swimming pool started in April this year and scheduled to be renovated completely within a year. It is pertinent to mention here that swimming season of the state is between May to September. Sportsperson alleged that it would have been better if the concerned authorities started the construction work after September to save the precious time of the sportspersons of the state. Also before starting of the construction work, alternative arrangements for practice should have been done. This amounts to the utter negligence on part of sports authorities as far as proper planning is concerned. The swimmers of the state are complaining lack of other facilities. One of the swimmer on the condition of anonymity said: “We are totally stray this year as we would not be able to participate in any domestic, state and national level tournaments”. He further cited that their precious time was wasted because of improper planning of the state government, and now we can only hope to participate in next year’s events. When contacted Director General State Sports Council, S Laharwal for his comments, he said ``this is the big project, we have sent proposal to concerned minister and after approval the construction work would be started. We have no other option, for improving the facilities in the state it has to improvised’’.
