CCI demands security for valley-bound transporters

JAMMU, Aug 7: Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) Jammu has appealed to the government to bring normalcy in the violence hit valley.
In a specially convened meeting presided over by President Chamber of Commerce YV Sharma, the members expressed their deep concern at the incidents of harassment and injuries to tanker drivers, who are doing their best to supply fuel to the valley.
CCI demanded that security must be provided to the Transporters who are plying to maintain the supply line during these difficult days
Government should provide security to all the vehicles carrying goods to be used in-day-today life so that they can reach to their destination safely, the members said.
The Chamber reiterated the importance of interdependence of all the three region of the State and appealed to the civil society in Kashmir Valley to ensure that the interests of trade, business and industry in the three regions should not be put jeopardy.
Already huge losses have been incurred whose impact will be felt throughout the state in the days to come.
The members expressed their concern also on the economic losses to the traders and industrialists on account of the on going turmoil in the valley. They expressed that the Commercial Tax department should notify the extension in the date of depositing the taxes of the first quarter. The Chamber was of the view that the government must come up with some proactive scheme to compensate the losses incurred by trade, business and Industry due to the on going unrest. If needed the state government should approach the Center for help in this exercise.
The Commercial Tax department in addition to extending the dates should desist from harassing and issuing notices to the traders and businessmen who have not filed their returns due to extra-ordinary circumstances. They must have considerate, sympathetic and humane approach in these difficult times for the traders and the businessmen.
The members made a fervent appeal to the government, the administrative machinery, the political parties, the representative bodies of people and the saner elements in the state to come forward and do their bit to bring back normalcy, peace and order in the state.
Earlier, CCI expressed its concern and sorrow at the loss of lives and damage to property due to the natural calamity of cloud burst and flash floods in Leh.
The members expressed heart-felt condolences for the people who lost their lives and appealed to the government to speed up the rescue work for the injured and missing people.
CCI also expressed its sympathies for the people who have lost their nears and dears and suffered heavy losses of property. The members urged the government to give speedy help and relief to the affected families.
In the end the members maintained two minutes silence and prayed to God to shower His blessings on the state and save us from all turmoil and calamities. It specially prayed to bring speedy relief to the inmates of Ladakah who have suffered unprecedented destruction due to nature’s fury.
