Punjab Technical ‘varsity wins e-India 2010 awards and laurels

Jalandhar, Aug 8: E-INDIA 2010 Awards organized in association with Department of Information Technology (DIT) under the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India, were held at Hyderabad International Conventional Centre, Hyderabad on 5th August 2010. These awards acknowledge and felicitate unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for development in diverse domains...
Out of 448 nominations received by e-India, 26 were put up online for the public to vote, with the entry receiving the maximum number of votes being declared the winner under the eINDIA Citizen Choice Award.
Three projects were submitted from Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, Distance Education, under the domain - Digital Learning. The e-Bridge and the Learning Management system (LMS) & Computer based tutorials (CBT) projects were nominated as one of the best in top three nominations selected by the jury.
In the Citizen’s Choice award, PTU was awarded the Best ICT enabled University of the Year (LMS & CBT) and also as the Best Open & Distance Learning initiative of the year.
On behalf of the Punjab Technical University, Dr. Rajneesh Arora (Vice Chancellor), Dr. N. P. Singh (Dean – Distance Education Programme), H.S. Bains, (Registrar), D.S. Sekhon (President, AIPTUDEP Associates) and J. S. Dhaliwal (President, PUTIA) received these awards from Ms. Agatha Sangma, Honorable Minister of State for Rural Development & Agriculture, Govt. of India.
On this Occasion Ms. Agatha Sangma congratulated the PTU team for the initiatives and lauded its efforts in enabling to spread the reach of quality and affordable education across the country in not just urban areas but also to remote destinations that lack opportunities of higher education with the help of ICT tools.
Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Vice Chancellor, PTU thanked the eIndia team, jury and all the people who participated in the voting process and made this award possible for PTU. He informed the gathering that the PTU team is committed to bring in more such innovations and explained his vision for PTU as the most progressive University in India, internationally recognized for the relevance, innovation and responsiveness of teaching and learning, research, partnerships and international activities.
Dr. N. P. Singh, Dean DEP emphasized the need for building a ‘Knowledge Society’. He explained that in today’s competitive environment, continuously upgrading oneself and acquiring new skills to enhance ones capabilities are necessary. PTU strives to provide a supportive, amicable and responsive environment for its team to achieve overall excellence in education.
