Prof Chaman Lal Gupta decries claims of Congress
8/7/2010 9:47:25 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu , Aug 7: Holding the Congress-NC coalition responsible for failure on all fronts leading, among other things, to Talibani domination in many parts of the valley, the leader of BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the claims of Congress and NC leaders that they were extending equal treatment to all regions. He warned serious repercussions of their continued step-motherly treatment towards Jammu and Ladakh especially the nationalists who stand for India and have been seeking removal of all barriers between this state and the rest of country.
Addressing meetings of party activists of his Jammu West Assembly Constituency at Janipur and other places, Prof. Gupta said that far less quantity of rations is available at government controlled depots at many places although the ration scale is much lower in Jammu areas than that in Kashmir valley.
In this regard, the BJP leader particularly referred to the recent statement of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that government ration depots would function round the clock to ensure supply of rice, wheat, atta, sugar etc., and the scale of rice and atta per ration card holder would be that of 50 kgs in the trouble-torn areas of Srinagar and other parts of the valley. But the CM and other coalition leaders needed to explain why no such arrangement is made for Jammu area and why the ration scale here is just 30 kgs including 20 kgs of Atta and 10 kgs of rice? Besides, these items of ration are made available for just a couple of hours on only particular days. He made a poser that whether the people of this region are being discriminated against because they do not indulge in stone pelting on security forces and raise anti-national slogans like aazadi, self-rule and autonomy? Whether they are being punished for their nationalism and patriotic outlook, he asked, adding that that sort of appeasement of secessionists had brought the valley to crisis making a hell of life for the nationalists especially the minorities.
Prof. Gupta challenged the claims of Congress ministers that there was no discrimination in the developmental activities and pointed out that in Jammu District Development plan for the current year just about Rs. 78 crores have been earmarked as against Rs. 80 crores for Srinagar and 98 crores for Anantnag. This is despite the fact that Jammu district not only occupies far bigger area and population but also has 11 assembly segments as against eight in Srinagar and just six in Anantnag district.
He asked the party activists to expose all those responsible for adopting step-motherly treatment towards Jammu with communal and regional incline, and is creating regional tensions.
The meetings were also addressed by Surinder Sharma In-charge (Prabhari) of the constituency, Parduman Singh Mandal, President and others.
