Workshop on biodiversity conservation organised | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 7: WWR-India J&K State office has been appointed as Resource Agency by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt of India for executing National Environment Awareness campaign 2010-11 for which the theme is “Biodiversity Conservation”. In this connection a day long workshop on this theme was organized today wherein about 80 representatives of various NGOs as well as different educational institutions of Jammu region participated. The purpose of the workshop was to give broad guidelines to the participants regarding submission of applications on prescribed performa by August 20 along with necessary documents such as registration certificate, MOU, audited balance sheet. The programme commenced with a welcome address by VP Sharma, Chairperson WWF-India, J&K who explained in detail the importance of biodiversity conservation, population explosion and climate change are playing havoc with our biodiversity and as a result many species of fauna and flora have become extinct while many others are at the verge of extinction. Dr C M Seth Executive Director WWF gave detailed guidelines for submission of applications along with necessary documents as well as regarding proper execution of the programme covering both the awareness as well as action components. The president Dr K C Bhagat appreciated the efforts of WWF in generation awareness about environment particularly in younger generation. In the end participated stood in silence for two minutes as a mark of respect for all those who lost their lives in a cloudburst at Leh.
