EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Aug 7:Though Budha Amarnath Yatra is religious affair of Hindu community, there is tradition in Poonch that the Yatra every year is being received by Muslim community at Mandi. The tradition was started by former Member Legislative Assembly Ghulam Mohammad Jan and this year his son and present MLA Ajaz Jan has planned to give grand reception to the Yatra along with the people of Muslim community.
Buddha Amarnath Yatra which is going to commence on August 12 is being received this year by the people belonging to Muslim community at Mandi so that the tradition started by Ghulam Mohammad Jan is continued forever. “We have planned to give the Yatra a grand reception”, MLA Poonch Ajaz Jan told Early Times adding that the Yatra is a symbol of communal harmony and his father has played a vital role in starting this tradition to welcome this Yatra along with all Muslim community people of Mandi.
Giving details, Ajaz Jan said that when the militancy was at the peak, some Yatries refused to visit Mandi and have Darshan of Shri Budha Amarnath Ji but his father Ghulam Mohammad Jan had made an appeal to them and had given guarantee.
“My father had said that if someone hurt these Yatries they have to first kill a member of the muslim community of the area following which the most of the people had started participating in this Yatra”, Jan said adding that he is just continuing a tradition which has been started by his father. “I am following the lines of my dad”, Jan said adding “I will continue to receive the Yatra everyyear so that the tradition is not stopped”.
Jan said that the Yatra has become symbol of love and peace in the area and he expects from people that the Yatries coming from outside must be treated as guests. “We must treat these Yatries as guest so that they return from the area with a good impression”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Yatra like previous years started from Dashnami Akhara Poonch where Havan and Pooja of Chhari Mubarak is being held.
In the congregation people from all walks of life come and pay tributes to the sacred mace after bhajan, kirtan and pravachans (speech) of the Mahant of the Akhara. The procession of Chhari Mubarak started from Akhara. A guard of honour was offered to Chhari Mubarak at the gate of the Akhara.
The Mahant is carried in a Palki by the devotees along with the sacred mace.
Lakhs of devotees and Sadhus are expected to accompany the procession this year. A number of stalls are being erected for welcoming the Chhari Mubarak and there are also arrangements of free langer and other eatable items are on way to Mandi. The Chhari Mubarak is then taken to the main shrine in between the traditional rituals followed by the Aarti of Lord Shiva.
Before partition, many people used to visit this shrine from areas now occupied by Pakistan.
