EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug7: The ongoing secessionist movement in Kashmir valley has gone out the hands of the separatist leaders and direct control from across the border, has made the moderate Hurriyat leadership very perturbed. According to sources, the Hurriyat leadership which in past has shown a willingness to hold talks with government of India to settle the present imbroglio in Kashmir feels totally sidelined and its role has become limited in resolving the present crisis in valley.
The sources said, the recent torching of effigies of Hizbul Mujahideen supreme Syed Sallah- ud- Din on his advice to Kashmiris to refrain from violence, arson etc and open public demonstrations against him has forced the moderate Hurriyat leadership to maintain a stoic silence for the time being. This is the reason that the leaders of conglomerate did not prefer make any statement that will attract the public wrath, sources added. Sources said that Hurriyat moderate faction had last time shown willingness to hold parlays with government of India to settle the present crisis in valley. But after the GOI showed no inclination of holding the talk at an earliest has also saddened the moderate faction.
A senior leader of the conglomerate while talking to this reporter said that their Organisation was willing to hold dialogue with GOI, but it is they who did not show any response to our desire. This percipated the situation more resulting in strikes and continued bandhs in valley. Sources said, the Hurriyat leadership has accused the GOI of back tracking from its earlier stand on the issue "We were ready to hold parlays with government for settlement of issue but it is they who delayed the talks resulting in present turmoil," the Hurriyat leader said pleading anonymity.
He said the situation has now deteriorated in Kashmir valley now it will be very difficult for the leadership to take the risk of talks, he added. "The GOI had through its emissaries assured to hold talks for finding an amicable solution to the issue and we too showed our readiness with sincerity as daily strikes and bandhs was not in the interests of people of the valley " he said. The Hurriyat leader said with the public wrath against Syed Sallah- ud- Din shows that no separatist leader can dare to declare true and show readiness to hold talks with GOI under prevailing circumstances.
The sources said even Syed Ali Shah Geelani has to fall people criticism for appealing them to maintain calm, which forced him to change his statement later saying that he will be ready for talks if centre considers Kashmir is disputed.
