Ultras manage to flee, search on | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Aug 7: Though search operation to flush out the terrorists is still on, 3 holed up militants in Chiti Bhatti area of Mendhar in Poonch district have reportedly given a slip to the security forces and managed to escape from the area as there is no response from the maize crops where the militants had taken shelter last evening. Yesterday, one army follower was killed in the encounter. Since police, Centre Reserve Police Force and troops of 38 Rashtriya Rifles have not called off the operation and the search operation is continued, sources said that militants might have escaped from the area taken the advantage of heavy rainfall and dense maize crops. "We have not called off the operation and we have launched intensive search in the area to nab the militants", Deputy Superintendent of Police Operations Javed Malik said adding "we cannot comment whether the militants are still in the maize crops or have slipped from the area". However he said that the militants are not responding after 3 PM on Friday. On the other hand sources said that there is every possibility of slipping of the militants as the area has dense grass and maize crops besides there was heavy rainfall last evening which might had paved way for the militants to escape from the area. It is pertinent to mention here that on the tip off of presence of militants in Chiti Bhatti village near Sangyote area police and troops of 38 Rashtriya Rifles had cordoned off the area and offered the militants to surrender on Friday but they had opened fire in which one follower namely Ruksar Mirza bearing No 541 attached to 38 RR was killed. Sources said that three militants had taken shelter in the house but they had left the house after killing a follower and had taken shelter in the maize crops. Police sources said that one militant might have received injuries in the encounter. However they have stopped firing at 3 PM on Friday. One of the militant involved in the operation was stated to be a LeT 'district commander' Abu Akasha, a Pakistani operating in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri for last two years. However, during the last three to four months, Akasha had shifted to Pir Panjal range along with his associates in view of mounting pressure of security forces in Mendhar and adjoining belt. |
