Donate liberally for Leh disaster: Sangarsh Samiti

JAMMU, Aug 8: Sangarsh Samiti has expressed shock over the Leh disaster and assured the people for full co-operation.
In a meeting of the Samiti convened here today at Geeta Bhawan under the chairmanship of its Convenor Brig (Retd) Suchet Singh, the members paid homage to the persons killed in natural disaster in Leh and appealed all the sections of the society to donate liberally for relief and rehabilitation of affected people.
Samiti passed a resolution to assist the affected people of Leh in this regard.
Addressing the meeting Suchet Singh said that hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands are still missing, a large number of villages are washed out and people are in great pain,therefore it is our supreme duty to stand firmly for the people of Leh.
He said Ladakh Fanday Chospa and Ladakh Kalyan Sangh has started relief and rehabilitation work soon after the cloud burst and Samiti members are in regular touch with these NGOs and also framed a committee named Ladakh Aapada Sahayta Samiti for providing relief and rehabilitation to the affected people in Leh.
Samiti also paid homage to Army soldiers of Bihar regiment and Ladakh Scouts, who have lost their lives in this disaster and appreciated the role of Army and JKP in providing the helping hands to the victims
Suchet Singh said, people of Leh are still in great fear when ever sky turned over-cast during the day today, panic gripped the people, who moved to the adjoining heights fearing more rainfall.
He said we are in touch with civil administration, Police and Army for relief and rehabilitation work in Leh. A group of about 50 workers of Samiti will leave for assistance to the victims with more relief and rehabilitation material.
An account has been opened by Ladakh Aapda Kosh 194800010157923 in PNB for this purpose. Meanwhile, a group of Samiti volunteers left for Leh today to provide aid to the victims.
