Raising cash relief to Kashmiri migrants is centre's baby: Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 8:The state Government has made it clear that it was for the central Government to increase the cash relief in favour of the Kashmiri displaced families. Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla, while referring to the recent demonstration outside the office of the Relief Commission in Jammu demanding increase in the cash relief, said that it was on the basis of his recommendations that the Government of India had recently hiked the cash relief in favour of the Kashmiri migrants by 25 percent. He explained that the cash relief to the Kashmiri migrants was being paid by the centre under the security related expenses. In reply to a question the Minister said that he was not opposed to the demand for increase in the cash relief because of increase in the prices of essential commodities besides medicines. Bhalla said but the issue could be sorted out by the leaders of the Pandit bodies with the Government of India. He said he had no hesitation in recommending to the centre the need for increasing the monthly cash relief in favour of Kashmiri migrants. Bhalla said that the state Government was concerned about the plight of the migrants from various areas of Jammu region. He said the state Government had requested the centre to bring these migrants from Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri at par with the Kashmiri migrants as far as the quantum of cash relief was concerned. Minister said hitherto the centre had not agreed to grant cash relief under the security related expenses. He stated that efforts were on and the state authorities continued to persuade the centre for enhancing the cash relief of Jammu migrants even if they were not to be covered under the security related expenses. Some of the Jammu migrants wanted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, announce a employment package for their wards also on the pattern of the package he had announced in favour of Kashmiri migrants. These migrants wanted a central team to visit the areas where the migrants from Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri had been camping so that measures were taken in hand for ameliorating their lot. One of the migrants said that in case the state Government had no resources to enhance the level of relief to them, it should make arrangements for free medical checkup and medicines. Besides this the state Government could make available some quantity of wheat Atta and rice for them free of cost or at highly concessional or subsidised rates. Another said that the state Government could also make suitable arrangements for their children who were keen to enroll themselves in schools but could not do so because their parents had no money to pay for the tuition fee and for the purchase of books.
