EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 8:Natrang staged Hindi Comedy play ‘Badi Buaji’ at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The play was sponsored by NITCO Logistics Pvt Limited Jammu. Written by Badal Sircar, the play was directed by Sumeet Sharma who has been bestowed with Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Direction in theatre. While welcoming the guests at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur expressed gratitude to Kunil Bhalla, Managing Director of Nitco Logistics for promoting the Natrang endeavors in bringing a new cultural renaissance in Jammu.

On the occasion Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang is the only theatre group of India which is performing theatre every Sunday since last six years and today is the 310th show of Sunday Theatre.

Today’s play a situational comedy, ‘Badi Buaji’-an absolute rib-tickler depicting unending problems faced by an amateur theatre group trying to put up a play for their colony. With the rehearsals taking place in the drawing room of the Annu’s house-the lead actress of the play, the sudden visit of her dear Badi Buaji creates a massive problem. ‘Badi Bua Ji’ is deadly against theatre, particularly her niece being on stage. Though her Daddy Sansar is a cool supporter of the young artists, playing spoilsport to their aspirations of staging the play is ‘Badi Bua Ji, who is trying to save the long protected reputation of the family.

The play continues to uphold situation where the “play within the play” is being practiced against the odds with Badi Buaji not ready to leave and moreover adamant to take Annu along. And poor Phuphaji has not much to say with Buaji around. Undaunted by the volute-face and inspired by Shekhar’s quick thinking, the artists make a delightful last ditch attempt to outwit Badi Buaji. The end marks not only the success of the play but also wedding bells ringing for Shekhar and Annu, thanks to Shekhar’s lovable Bhabhiji.

Sumeet Sharma has successfully adapted the play in local environs and brought lot many changes to make the theatre action more interesting. Rajani Bhatti as ‘Badi Bua Ji’ and Bela Thappa as ‘Annu’ played the lead roles with full artistic energy. Pawan Verma, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Pankush Verma and Tajasvi Sharma supported the play with their respective professional performances. Divya Kohli, Rahul Singh, Bipin Gupta, Ishfaq Anwar and Charanjeet Bhardwaj won the appreciation of the audiences. Two child artists Gopi Sharma and Rhythm Mishr who made guest appearances impressed one and all.. The lights were designed by Gaurav Jamwal and executed by Jai Ram. Mohd Yaseen did the public relations whereas the hall management was done by Balwinder Singh, Vasu Gupta, Archit Nanda, Sona Singh, Niharika Sharma and Vikram Sharma did the presentations of the show.
