Early Times Report
JAMMU AUG 8: Panun Kashmir (PK) organised a Seminar on the Topic “Making Sense of What is Happening in Kashmir" on Sunday. The Seminar was presided by Dr. Mohan Krishan Teng. an eminent political scientist of Jammu & Kashmir. The Seminar was addressed by MM. Khajuria, former Director General of Police Prof Hariom. an eminent think-tank and political writer and Dr. Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman of Panun Kashmir Shailendra Aima Senior Vice Chairman of Panun Kashmir conducted deliberations .
M Khajuria former Director General of Police, while speaking in the Seminar, opined that the "Quit Jammu & Kashmir" call given by Tehrik-e-Hurriyat Chief Syed Ali Shah Gellani amidst the ongoing disturbances in Kashmir exposed the political dimension of the conspiracy hatched by Pak establishment and its local collaborators. The vicious slogan deserved to be dismissed as a gimmick or prank but for the fact that the extremist fringe were today holding the sizable section of the population in the valley to ransom and causing severe dislocation of the economic, social and political life. Tins, as intended was attracting international attention and providing grist to Pakistani propaganda mill.
Prof Hariom while speaking on the occasion was categorical in asserting that "In fact, it is the Indian state which is sustaining the ongoing strife in the Kashmir Valley". Prof. Hariom pointed out that the statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on August 6. in the Rajya Sabha is nothing but a blend of contradictions and that instead of assuring the House of Elders that New Delhi will change its strategy in the changed circumstances to controvert the pernicious influence of Pakistan and defeat its evil designs on Kashmir Chidambaram had raised the issues of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and reduction of security personnel in the state.
Prof. Hariom stated that it seemed the Union Home Minister had been influenced by "the decision of the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government to abdicate its authority in favour of Geelani, as also by the PDP president and Leader of the Opposition Mehbooba Mufti's suggestion to Omar Abdullah that the state government should use the good offices of Geelani in order to douse the fire in Kashmir".
Prof. Hariom further stated that the situation has now climaxed to the point where the fustian state has chosen to silence person’s tike union Home Secretary GK Pillai and the Army Chief, Gen. V.K. Singh who had called to put things in perspective by exposing those responsible for the current anti-India strife in Kashmir.
Dr.Ajay Chrungoo, Chairman of Panun Kashmir stated that It is time for the entire nation to recognize the "extremely regressive content of the movement which is holding whole of the Kashmir valley in its grip. It is time the whole nation delegitimizes the public mobilizations in the valley by emphatically stating that the strife in Kashmir is basically driven by an ideolological content which negates the freedom of mankind, breeds hatred and aims to destroy pluralism based on right to equality.
Dr. Teng during his presidential address asserted that Muslim separatism in its various forms including the demand for secession of Jammu and Kashmir from India and the creation of a separate Muslim sphere of power in Jammu and Kashmir is destructive of the unity of India and the secular character of its social and political organization. Dr. Teng further elucidated how the attempts made by sections of Indian political class to seek a compromise with Muslim separatists or Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir are destructive of the unity of India. "Any compromise which places Jammu and Kashmir half way from India will lead straight to another partition of India, it is time we all realize that concessions to Muslim separatism will lead to balkanization of India."
