Chauhan reviews rescue, relief measures in Leh | | | Early Times Report LEH, Aug 8 :Minister of State in Prime Minister’s office, Prithvi Raj Chauhan today reviewed the rescue and relief measures taken for evacuation and rehabilitation of flood affected people here at a high level meeting. Briefing the meeting, the CEC said that communication system, road connectivity, irrigation khuls, power and drinking water supply have been affected in all the flood hit areas. He sought adequate funds from the Centre for early restoration of irrigation khuls to save the remaining standing crops in flood affected villages and areas besides taking restoration of link roads.
Mr. Dorje requested the Union Minister to get the DPR under Flood Management programme (FMP) approved by the Centre, which he said has been already submitted for approval.
The CEC also demanded more tents, diesel generator set of 3-5 MW capacity and additional funds to tackle the situation arising out of the cloudburst and consequent floods.
The Deputy Commissioner gave a detailed account of the losses of the infrastructure including that of power receiving station and lift irrigation scheme. He said that 60,000 quintals of rice is stocked in FCI Leh presently. He said 10,000 quintals of atta is required to be stocked to meet the requirements in full.
Addressing the meeting Mr. P. R. Chouhan assured to pursue the demands with the Central Government. He said, he will also approach Civil Aviation Ministry for operating more flights to Leh for air-lifting of the stranded tourists and other people at Leh due to closure of National Highway.
