Representatives of ETT colleges call on Peerzada | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 8:A delegation of Association of Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) Institutes called on Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Syed here today The delegation was headed by President Hari Dutt Shishu and General Secretary K K Pandoh along with other senior office bearers of the association. They submitted their memorandum to the Minister highlighting various issues regarding streamlining of ETT course conducted by J&K Board of School Education. The members alleged that once a prestigious course, the ETT is now on a steep decline. The delegation requested the Minister to give directions to the concerned to start the admission process for the session 2010-12 as results of class 12th in most of the states are already declared. Untimely admissions are becoming a major factor for decline in admission for ETT course. It was suggested that ETT qualification be made mandatory for employment of teachers in our state as is done in other states, for improving the quality of education. Our state has employed thousands of untrained teachers under various schemes; hence they need to be trained as professional teachers. The delegation also demanded that marks eligibility for admission to ETT course should be reduced from 45 percent to passing marks so that large numbers of students are benefited. It was also suggested that untrained teachers already employed by the Government should be sent for undergoing the ETT course while in service, through the use of network of colleges of our state. Minister gave a very patient hearing and assured the delegation of his positive intervention for streamlining the course. He appreciated that J&K has become an educational hub and the students studying in hundreds of colleges are one of the major contributing factor towards Educational Tourism of the state.
