Tussle growing among Hurriyat factions to gain supremacy | | | ashwani EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 8: With Hurriyat hardliner group headed by Syed Ali +Shah Geelani issuingfresh calendar of strike upto August 14, the tussle is increasing among the two factions of Hurriyat to have supremacy over each other in the ongoing so-called movement in Kashmir. The moderate faction of Hurriyat which feels to be sidelined in the ongoing movement while Geelani's faction rules the roost in rural Kashmir is trying its hard to emerge as the front liner in ongoing movement in Valley. Soon after the announcement of the new calendar for strike by Hurriya hardliner leader and chief of the Dukhtran-e-Milat AshaInderabi upto August 14, the moderate faction led by Moulvi Umer Farooq gave a call for "Pampore Challo'' (Marchto Pampore) on August 11. According to sources the moderate faction of the Hurriyat feels sidelined in the ongoing movement which was dominated by Geelani faction as the people responded to its strike call since June 21. This has even created ripples in moderate faction which earlier had shown its willingness to hold talks with Government of India in resolving the Kashmir issue once for all, the sources added. The sources said the moderate faction also feels let down by GOI which showed a Luke warm response to its willingness of holding talks with Central Government forcing it to side with the ongoing movement for face saving. The sources said had the Government taken an initiative in holding talks with moderate faction and other separatist organizations the situation could have been quite different at present. The delay in taking a timely decision by Union Government in this regard has given ample time to hardliner faction to mobilize the public opinion in favour of the present strike and agitation, sources added. The sources said to keep its faction alive and maintain its stake the Hurriyat faction led by Umer Farooq was left with no option but to support the ongoing agitation and issue the call for ``Pampore Challo''. However, sources said Geelani faction continues to call shorts as it took full advantage of the delay made by Union Government in taking a decision on holding talks with the moderate faction and other separatist groups who had realized that the gun and violence was no solution to ongoing problem in Kashmir and it can be settled through table negotiations. The sources said announcement of new calendar by Hurriyat hardliner group which gives a call upto August 14 has established it that Friday will be a public holiday in Kashmir while the Friday will remain a holiday. This is the move of the Jeahadi forces from across the border, who want to convert Kashmir a full fledged Islamic state. The sources said that for last over a month the trend of observing Sunday as open day and Friday as off Day is gaining momentum as maximum shops and business establishments across the Valley remain open on Sunday and closed on Friday as is practice in Pakistan and other Islamic states. The sources said this way Hurriyat hardliner group which is being controlled from across the border has succeeded to a lot of extent in establishing the Pakistani agenda in Kashmir and marginalizing the other factions including the moderate group of Hurriyat and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). |
