Quit India Day observed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 9 : To observe the Quit India Day (August 09, 1942) and pay tributes to all those who sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle, a function was held at the PCC HQ. here today. The function was organised by District Congress Committee , Jammu Urban under the presidentship of Om Chopra, ex-MLA, a freedom fighter and was attended by senior leaders of PCC and frontal organisations like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI and INTUC. The senior leaders who spoke on the occasion included Parduman Singh, Th. Hari Singh, Yash Pal Khajuria, Vice Presidents PCC, general secretary and spokesperson PCC Ravinder Sharma, MLC, Amolak Singh, general secretary, PCC, Mula Ram-Ex-Minister, President Mahila Congress Smt. Indu Pawar-MLA, AIYC General Secretary Amrinder Singh, President JKPYC Shohaib Lone, President NSUI Rasheed Choudhary, President INTUC Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shiv Dev Singh-Ex-MLA, Chuni Lal Bhat, S.R.Sudhir, Com. Jaswant Singh, Manmohan Singh, K.L.Gupta (Secretaries PCC), President DCC Ramban Bharat Gandhi-Ex-MLA, Smt. Lalita Sharma, D.S.Langeh, S. Kirtan Singh, B.S.MAstana, R.S.Pathania-Sr. Vice President PYC, S.S.Shingari, Pankaj Dogra, Ch. Sukhdev Singh, Madan Malagar, Kulbushan Sharma, Ram Rattan, V.K. Sethi, Main Nazir Ahmed and others. On the occasion, a shawl and a Gandhi cap was presented on behalf of PCC President Prof. Saifuddin Soz to Om Chopra who had participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942. Parduman Singh-Ex-MLA and Com. Jaswant Singh-Trade Union leader were also garlanded in recognition of their services. The District Congress Committee organized a programme at Ranjit Resort to celebrate the historical 'Quit India movement' as foundation day which was launched with a slogan "Do or Die" on 9 August of 1942 by the Congress party under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi to put an end to colonial rule. On the occasion All India General Secretary of Indian National Congress Committee and In-charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Capt. Parvin Davar, was the chief guest. He exhorted the masses to remember the great sacrifices of Congress leaders, Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Subhash Chander Boss, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and many others during the freedom movement. Quit India "Bharat Chide" was a dynamic and result-oriented initiative of the Congress under the leadership of Gandhi Ji. Secular and democratic character of the Congress made India a large democratic country in the world with its unique culture. He said that BJP and its allies RSS are playing cheap politics to gain publicity by instigating religious sentiments of the people that escalate communal tension in the country. While speaking on the occasion the Ex-President of Kathua Municipality Naresh Sharma criticized the role of BJP leaders during the freedom movement. He alleged that BJP leaders were closely associated with the Britishers at a time when the youth of the country were shedding their blood for independence.. Religious extremist parties, their politicians and their political activists have only one motive and that is to divide the country. MLC Subhash Chander Gupta and Secretary of PCC Manohar Singh also told the people to remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for nation's freedom movement. Congress was in the forefront of these sacrifices. They expressed regret over the role of RSS and Muslim League to oppose "Quit India movement". They accused BJP and RSS of trying to misguide the Indian mass. But now the Indian masses have become aware of the false face of BJP and RSS, and they are rejected on all fronts by the people. They said that the present Kashmir turmoil would be sorted out soon and peace would be restored. It is the Congress that can meet the aspirations and desires of the people. Among the participants in the programme were the General Secretary Bhupinder Singh (Pinku), Secretary of JKPCC, Rattan Chand, Pawan Kumar, and others.
