Agri deptt develops new mushroom variety | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 9: The Directorate of Agriculture Jammu has achieved a major success in the cultivation of milky mushroom in Jammu during the current year. The Mushroom Development wing has been conducting trial for the last 4-5 years on the cultivation of this variety of mushroom which can extend the period of mushroom production to almost a round the year basis, as the other varieties i.e button mushroom and dhingri can be grown during the winter months only (September to April). After achieving success in standardization of its cultivation technology last year, a massive awareness campaign was launched through media and field functionaries of Mushroom Section in the current year. Two days practical training programme on cultivation of Milky Mushroom was organized on 7th and 8th of June 2010 in which more then 60 farmers, including farm women participated and learned the techniques of its cultivation. As a result, this year 16 farmers established milky mushroom unit in different parts of Jammu district with a total layout of around 3800 poly bags. The production of crop has started at all the units and it is expected that this year yield will be around 38 Qtls as against 6.3 Qtls last year. This was disclosed by Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria while reviewing the progress of the scheme during his visit to the Demonstration Centre of the Mushroom Development Scheme Talab Tillo Jammu along with Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) V K Bhakri and Chief Agriculture officer Jammu S R Galotra where he also inspected the trial demonstrations at the centre. Besides providing awareness and Technology about cultivation of various varieties of mushroom, the directorate also provide 50 percent subsidy on various strains of spawn for cultivation of Mushroom in the region |
