JMC reeling under command crisis | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 9: The spell of ongoing monsoon season has created havoc across the city in the shape of filth and garbage on the roads thus exposing the inability of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to tackle the situation. Even the State Government has maintained lame attitude towards the functioning of JMC, which is evident from the fact that in the last Cabinet meeting the JMC Commissioner was transferred and the position remained vacant, as the charge was handed over to District Development Commissioner as additional one. Needless to say that JMC needs a full time administrator especially when the position of Mayor is lying vacant due to non conduct of election. It appears to be an extreme act of carelessness on part of State Cabinet to leave JMC in disarray. In January 2005, JMC election was held and the next election was due after 5 years i.e, after the completion of term on February 2010 but seven months have passed so far but no decision on the conduct of election has been taken. Even no developmental work has been finalized because the JMC house is not properly functioning. Though Commissioner Mubarak Singh was making some efforts to gear up the working of the civic body but since he has been appointed as District Development Commissioner, Samba, the hopes of Jammuites to take up new projects in the city have dashed. It is a realistic that DC Jammu is unable to take care of JMC affairs in effective manner but Government is least bothered over it. The sanitation and other related problems are prevailing in the city due to this non-seriousness of the government. People are facing many problems as in rainy season there is more chances of spreading of communicable diseases and already there are threats like malaria and typhoid. And headless corporation adds to the troubles of masses.
