Take effective steps to restore people’s faith: BJP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 9: Bharatiya Janata Party has been repeatedly urging upon the union government to understand the gravity of the situation in Kashmir and take all effective steps to restore faith of the people as there seems no government and the anti-national elements are dictating the things in valley, said State BJP chief Shamsher Singh Manhas.
He was addressing party MLAs, senior functionaries and activists who had staged a dharna outside Raj Bhawan to register their protest against the deteriorating situation in the valley due to failure of law and order.
Shamsher Singh said incidents like stone pelting, torching of government establishments, preventing the public servants to discharge their duties is crime and those behind such activities should be treated as criminals. But unfortunately those targeting the security forces are treated as innocents.
Led by Manhas and leader of Legislature Party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, the party activists shouted slogans against the state government and demanded effective steps to curb the violent incidents in various parts of valley.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, in his address, said that the current turmoil in the valley is not a political issue but a law and order problem. The coalition is failing to meet the constitutional obligation to enforce the law of the land. The ruling leaders are beating about the bushes to cover up their failures. They must act or quit.
He said that the current trouble is a part of the proxy war under a changed strategy from armed militancy to stone pelting and other kinds of mob violence. He said that the Governor, being the Centre’s representative in the state, should request the Union Government to boost the morale of the security forces and also abrogate Article-370, as it has proved to be harmful.
Former State BJP President Ashok Khajuria, in his address, counted a number of instances which have proved beyond any doubt that the union government has been working on communally motivated appeasement policy in J&K. Such policy of the successive governments of the Congress at the centre has only promoted the cause of the anti-national elements and weakened the nationalist forces in the state. He appealed the people of the valley not to fall prey to the misleading propaganda of the separatists.
Later, a memorandum addressed to the Governor was also handed over to the Raj Bhawan official containing party’s view point on the present situation in Kashmir.
