Delhi based activist suggests | Tale of 3 CMs | | Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 9: Omar Abdullah is the third Chief Minister to rule the state since 2002. All of them have evoked ridicule and criticism but the incumbent Chief Minister, according to a New Delhi based human rights defender deserves Nishaan-e-Kashmir for "triggering the on-going bloody agitation." The activist, Gautam Navlakha believes Omar Abdullah mishandled the situation and gave the separatists a chance to get the people on streets yet again. "In Kashmir blood acts like fuel. When a person gets killed, it creates a stir in the entire Valley", he said. The state apparatus, Navlakha said, is fully aware of this harsh reality. "The security agencies, therefore, should have exercised utmost restraint. But they did the contrary and the results are obvious", he said. The local analysts also hold the Chief Minister responsible of triggering a fresh wave of violence. According to them, the separatists had received a severe set back by massive participation of people in 2008 elections. A movement of the magnitude of the on-going agitation, they believe, was simply out of question but the authorities made it possible. A separatist leader had earlier leveled similar allegations against the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said: "We are thankful to Azad. He did in twenty days what we could not do in twenty years." When asked to elaborate he said: "For twenty years we tried our best to get people out on the streets but failed. Thanks to Azad Sahib, the goal was achieved with ease." The separatist leader meant to say that Azad had infused new life in the dying freedom movement'. Millions chanted the Azadi slogan at Pampore, Eidgah and TRC grounds in 2008. The international community had to focus attention on Kashmir yet again. The after shocks of what is now called June uprising are still being felt. In fact, the on-going agitation is believed to be an extension of the 2008 uprising. Scores of innocent civilians got killed during Mufti's regime. The top brass of Hizbul Mujahideen was wiped out during his regime. But the killings went un-noticed because Mufti did it meticulously. The people realized it only when data regarding probes was released by the government. To put it in the words of a renowned Valley based journalist, Mufti made the valley bleed in a subtle and sophisticated manner. He did not give the separatists the much needed grist to run their mill.
