Homage paid to Leh victims | | | Early Times Report Akhnoor, Aug 10: To pay homage to the unfortunate victims of Leh tragedy in the flash floods, Tanda Tigers, the unarmed military component of Army (Dogras and Ladakhis) who fought Kargil War of 1999 as porters assembled at Tanda and expressed deep sympathies with bereaved families. K P Singh, organiser of Tanda Tiger Force and others appealed to the government for early relief and rehabilitation of victims. NGOs, public and social organizations were requested to help Ladakhi community generously in their hour of crisis. They offered their services and all help to the government and non-government agencies to send rehabilitation stores to Leh. They appealed for early dispatch of students from Ladakh to be with their families during this calamity. Those porters who worked closely with Ladakhis in Kargil sector paid rich tributes to the dedication and hard work of their Ladakhi colleagues. K P Singh, who is also Chairman of Raj Tilak Celebration Committee, Akhnoor appreciated sympathetic and humane appeal of Dr. Karan Singh for declaring Leh tragedy as National Calamity to enable each M P to donate from their MPLAD for reconstruction of Leh and rehabilitation of victims. Tanda Tigers lauded the role of central govt, C M, Army, security forces and Distt authorities in saving many precious lives by quick rescue and relief operations. The gathering observed two-minutes silence to pray for peace to the deceased. Sh T R Sharma, Hav Mohinder Singh. S. Sewa Singh, Hav Sukhdev, Hav Ramesh Chander and Capt Sandokhu Ram were among those present.
