Court awards five years imprisonment to then CAPD staffer | | | Early Times Report Jammu, August-10: Additional Sessions Judge Anti-corruption, Jammu, DC Sagotra today awarded five years imprisonment and fine Rs 7000 to accused Devi Chand, then senior assistant store-keeper cum salesman Food and Supplies dept, Ukhral, Tehsil Banihal for misappropriating the foodgrains to the tune of Rs 10, 36, 914 during the period July 1, 1990 to May 1994. Upon this FIR has been registered in P/S Vigilance Organization, Jammu and investigation was started and after completion of investigation challan was present in the Competent Court. Additional Sessions Judge, Anti-corruption, Jammu, DC Sagotra after hearing Senior Prosecuting officers Suresh Sharma and Rohit Gupta appearing for the Vigilance Organization, observed that rely upon the record in the file offences u/ss 5(2) PC Act and 409 RPC are proved against the accused Devi Chand. The accused is an aged person and he has already suffered for the last 15 years (since the lodging of FIR on January 5, 1995), therefore, in the interest of justice accused is convicted u/s 5(2) PC Act 2006 and sentenced to undergo imprisonment for 2 years and fine Rs 2000/-, in addition to it under the offence u/s 409 RPC accused is convicted and sentenced to undergo imprisonment for three years and fine of Rs 5000. Court however said that both sentences will run concurrently. JNF
