| SIEF delegation calls on Director Zoology & Mining | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, Aug 10:
A delegation of Speak India Environmental Foundation (SIEF) led by its Director Suresh Kumar today met Director Zoology and Mining department in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Sanjeev Verma to raise the issue of illegal mining in the Ravi river.
Suresh said that SIEF has already launched the campaign “Save Ravi Safe Ravi” to sensitize the people about the threat that this digging and degradation of the river Ravi can pose to the environment and eco system of the Kathua district.
He further raised the issue of destruction and the process of annihilation being carried out by the vested interests from both J&K and Punjab in the river Ravi.
The stone crusher owners have created a kind of mafia that is carrying out the process of destruction of the river Ravi by digging out stones, sand and construction material at the cost of the degradation of environment and the ecosystem nurtured by the Ravi.
This process of vandalism is going on since the last many years.
Director of the Mining Deptt said that we have visited the Ravi river and observed the situation and we will definitely try to put a break to the illegal mining after the completion of demarcation.
