Taj for futuristic water planning for Jammu | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 10: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi ud Din today stressed the need for preparing a perspective drinking water policy for Jammu for the coming 30 years. Chairing a meeting of heads of various engineering departments, the Minister underscored the need for such a policy in view of the expanding population in the province and growing needs of the people. In this regard, Taj impressed upon the engineers to explore all possibilities of tapping water and its proper storage from both upper and underground sources to meet ever growing demand. The Minister was briefed about the previous exercises undertaken by various agencies in this regard. Taj asked the engineers to keep in view the earlier efforts also while preparing a comprehensive and viable plan for the purpose. In this connection, he specifically directed tapping of Chenab waters which is being considered most viable water source for the last one thousand years. Technical Advisor, to PHE, Abrol, Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu, Dileep Bakshi, Relief Commissioner, Vinod Koul, Special Secretary to PHE, Showker Zargar and other officers attended the meeting.
