Pro-freedom slogans aired, JU tense | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 10: A tense situation prevailed on Jammu University (JU) campus this morning as some youth seeking United Nation’s intervention in resolving the vexed Kashmir dispute raised pro-freedom slogans. A large number of youth on Tuesday staged a protest outside Jammu University campus. The protestors, while raising pro-freedom slogans, said, “It is high time for the Government of India and Pakistan to seriously come to table with a sincere approach to settle the dispute with the help of United Nations so that people of Kashmir, who have seen two decades long turmoil can live a peaceful life.” Carrying placards like “Freedom can alone solve Kashmir problem”, the protesting students were demanding the revocation of Armed Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir and reduction in troops. Amid “anti-CRPF” slogans, the protesters raised concern over killing of innocent youth during protests in CRPF troopers and police firing. Urging the state coalition government, they demanded, “The guilty police officials should be booked under law for killing innocent people.” “Kashmiri people are not being allowed to speak out against the injustice met to them,” they alleged. The protestors asked the government to stop “killing of innocent people” as it is making the situation worse. Earlier, the students and members of a particular community assembled at Shaheedi Chowk at around 10 in the morning and tried to take out a protest march. However, they were not allowed by the police personnel led by SP City Randeep Kumar alleging that the protesters had not sought proper permission to hold a march.
