Shabir calls for massive awareness against pollution

JAMMU, Aug 10:
To make the pollution free environment, Minister of State for Forests Shabir Ahmed Khan has asked the Pollution Control Board (PCB) authorities to arrange regular awareness camps in their headquarters for educating people about the policies of the department.
This was said by the Minister while interacting with the officers of PCB at a review meeting held at PCB office in Transport Nagar, here this afternoon.
Chairman, PCB Lal Chand, Regional Director PCB, Showkat Choudhary and other senior officers of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Jammu were present in the meeting.
Minister asked the officers for regular monitoring of Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Noise Pollution and Soil Pollution in the Industrial Estate and its adjoining areas so that the people do not face any inconvenience. He directed them to check the functioning of pollution control devices installed within the norms/permissible limits as prescribed by the PCB. He asked the officers to issue instructions to stone crushers and industrialists to plant more and more trees in and around the area for making pollution free environment. He said that the Central Government has categorized the industries in three categories which include Red, Orange and Green categories units adding that the survey report indicates that 481 units are in Red, 959 units in Orange, and 1185 units in Green category were established in Jammu region. He cautioned to those unit holders whose industrial units did not fall under the norms of PCB to approach the authorities for permission, otherwise face action.
Shabir asked the Red, Orange, Green categories units besides brick kiln, stone crushers, rice mills, cement charcoal bhatties, metals, chemicals, paper, plastic, paints, oil and vanaspati, textile, batteries carbon, D G manufacturing and assembling unit holders to install Effluent Treatment Plant after seeking permission from the Board.
